ANNUAL PARISH MEETING - February 2010

The date has been set for the Annual Parish Meeting.  This is open to all residents of the parish and details will be provided of the speakers nearer the time.  The meeting will take place at
7.30pm on 22nd April in the WI Hut.

PROPOSALS FOR EX-RAF NEWTON - December 2009

I know it seems early to be bringing out next year’s calendars but I know some of you send these to relatives in far flung places around the world and need to get them in the post to travel by surface mail.

The calendar has photos exclusively of East Bridgford and I hope they reflect the different months and seasons.

John Chater will be running beginners’ lessons on Monday afternoons from 2.30pm to 4.45pm starting in the WI Hut on 28th Sept. Come along and sample the first two lessons with no commitment. You do not need a partner. More details in the WEA brochure.

Once again a very successful evening of Sporting Challenge took place on the eve of the village show on Butt Field. Forty teams of four took part in a spot of tennis, cricket, golf, bowls and football. Along with the many spectators and supporters, they were sustained by the BBQ and the beer tent – both of which had sold out by the end of the evening.   Get full details and results here.

The Energy Saving Trust is a government funded body whose aim is to help save local people money on their energy bills, whilst helping to fight climate change. They have contacted us this month with information about the service, and you can click here to review this.

Now that the warmer weather is with us, the Bowls Club look forward to enjoying the Bowling Season once again.

We are always looking for new members. If you are even only slightly interested, come along to the Bowling Green on Butts Field on Monday, Wednesday or Friday afternoons. We run informal bowling sessions from 2pm. to 4pm. We will provide the bowls and free coaching for this lovely, friendly game. We will even give you a cup of tea and biscuits.

On Friday June 26th, the night before the Village Show, the Sport's night takes place. This is an occasion where teams of four people take part in Bowls, Tennis, Cricket and Football competitions. You can practise your skill at bowling on Butts Field and if you like it try bowling on our superb Bowling Green later.  Finally - may we remind you of our Fund Raising Coffee Morning to be held in the Pavilion on Saturday 30th May, from 10pm. to 12 noon.

As Spring springs, it is time once again to focus one’s thoughts towards this year’s annual village show. As usual it’s the last Saturday in June, so make sure you’ve got the 27th in your diaries. Read the Chairman's Update report here.

The Authority is seeking volunteers from across the County to join its new Community Panel, to give their opinions on a variety of policing issues.

Cllr John Clarke, Chairman of the Police Authority, says: 'It is really important the people give us their opinions so that we can take them into account.

If there are areas where the service is not as good as it might be, we want people to tell us so that we can ensure that the Force addresses the problem.

'We want to see local people influencing the delivery of policing services. They are local taxpayers, with a right to say in the way in which they and their communities are policed'.

Following the appeal for co-ordinators to fill the vacancies back in December to keep the scheme alive, Paul Bancroft is pleased to report that there are three new volunteers, leaving just four vacancies:
 

Each year Rushcliffe Borough Councillors get £500 from the Rushcliffe Community Support scheme to distribute to community groups in their ward. In 2008/9 Cllr Nigel Lawrence of Oak Ward decided this should benefit young person’s organisations in his ward.  Click here for details.

 

Plans to build a hydro generating station at the Gunthorpe weir have come to a halt, perhaps permanently - read the latest report here.

 

Once upon a time, the village web site appeared under the domain www.eastbridgford.net and then a little later as www.eastbridgford.com, however, about 12 months ago, after some administrative problems, it was moved to a new domain: www.eastbridgford.org. 

People may have been successfully using the old domains which had been re-routed to www.eastbridgford.org.

Back in November, problems were experienced with the eastbridgford.net domain, and now in January, the same issues have occurred with eastbridgford.com. 

Whilst we thought this was all in hand, and hoped it would be fully resolved by the end of March - some further complications have arisen and we will try to keep you updated.

St Peter's Primary is one of the first 6 schools in the country to have been awarded Soil Associations "Food for Life Mark" Silver Award. This is the highest grade currently available, and they can now start working for the Gold Award -  The awards were presented by HRH Prince Charles at a ceremony on Decembers 1st. Find out more.

 

Remember that East Bridgford, as Nottinghamshire's entry in the 2008 Calor Village of the Year? competition.

Well, the village went on to win the Environment prize for the Central Region of England! Read the Village of the Year entry and the review of the award.

 

6 vacancies for co-ordinators mean that without more volunteers the village will have no option but to disband the current scheme.
