In 1971 as part of a national effort by
the RNLI, the East Bridgford Guild organised a sponsored
walk and, much to the organisers’ surprise, raised £468.
Originally intended as a ‘one off’, ‘The Walk’ has become a
biennial fixture in the calendar on the Sunday of the May
Day Bank Holiday and people have responded generously.
In 2009,
record breaking £10,500 plus was raised.
The walk is some 13 miles through some
beautiful countryside, starting in East Bridgford Village
hall, passing through nearby villages along Trent Valley,
across the River Trent at Hazelford, along the riverside
back to Gunthorpe, and eventually East Bridgford.
A large number of helpers and supporters
are involved behind the scenes on the day. If you feel that
you would like to join in one way or another
