Purpose
The club was founded in 1994 with the aims of stimulating the interest
of members in gardening, of providing an opportunity to exchange
information and ideas on gardening and to arrange visits to interesting
gardens, both in the locality and other parts of the country.
Events
A yearly
programme
of Winter and
Spring talks is arranged on a wide range of horticultural and gardening
subjects. A social evening is held in December followed by a buffet
supper.
In the Summer months
the club arranges a full day Saturday coach outing to one or two
gardens of special significance. There are also two evening visits to
interesting gardens in the village or within easy travelling distance.
A Plant Sale in the Village Hall is held in June where specialist
plants are available. This event is particularly popular with the
general public.
Membership
Membership of the
club is open to anyone resident in East Bridgford and neighbouring
villages. Each year an Annual General Meeting is held where members may
vote to elect members of a committee. The committee comprises of:
Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and up to eight
other members.
Meetings
The club meets
monthly from October to April in the WI Hut, normally on the fourth
Tuesday of the month. Expert speakers both from the local area and from
further afield give talks and answer questions on a variety of subjects
ranging from garden design and plant cultivation to the history of
gardens.
The current annual membership fee of £7 covers entry
to these talks whilst guests are welcome to attend on payment of
£2. A small charge is made for refreshments which are served
after the talk followed by a raffle. As well as information given out
at meetings members are also kept informed of club activities by
distribution of a twice yearly bulletin.
Forthcoming events are also
publicised in the Parish magazine.
