Annual Sporting Challenge 2009
- July 2009
|
Once again a very successful evening of Sporting Challenge took place on the eve of the village show on Butt Field. Forty teams of four took part in a spot of tennis, cricket, golf, bowls and football. Along with the many spectators and supporters, they were sustained by the BBQ and the beer tent – both of which had sold out by the end of the evening.
Points were awarded according to each team’s position in each event – ie the winner of the Bowls event scored 1 point, second place scored 2 etc and each team accumulated points according to their position in each of the five sports. The overall winning team was therefore the team with the least number of points over all five events.
Congratulations to this year’s winning team - Sweetie Pies. This team may not have won any of the five individual sports outright, but they nearly won the Cricket and the Golf and managed a steady, above average position to be awarded the Richard Watkins Memorial Trophy and their place on the Roll Of Honour. All members of the winning teams for each event were presented with impressive individual trophies to remember their achievement for years to come!
